Volunteer

Volunteers are a key part of our work in transforming children, families and communities to promote school readiness. We welcome individuals, groups, and corporate partners to support our programming through the following volunteer opportunities.

Support our Toy Drive (ongoing to Dec 11, 2017)

We need your help collecting new toys for children 0-5 years of age.  Ideal toys include Fisher Price items, Tonka Trucks, Legos, Dolls and more. Our goal is to collect 500 toys by December 6! Toys can be delivered to our main site at 68 Annunciation Road, Roxbury, MA.

Help us wrap gifts (Dec 11 through Dec 16, 2017)

Volunteers are needed to wrap and sort toys by age groups. Toy wrapping begins December 11 and continue until the party on December 16.

Volunteer at the upcoming Party for a Purpose (Dec 16, 2017)

Smart from the Start is preparing for our Holiday Party for a Purpose! Every year, Smart celebrates holiday traditions from across the world. Each year we help make the holidays better for hundreds of the lowest-income families throughout Greater Boston.  Smart families are invited for a day of fun activities, crafts, food, and gifts!

Volunteers are needed for setup and decorating, as well as, support during the event. We will have 8 holidays represented including 3 Kings, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa! Each holiday will have a table to provide information and have a fun craft for families to make and take home. Volunteers will help facilitate the crafts and provide demonstrations such as building a gingerbread house to finger painting. We also invite volunteers to assist with serving the meal and handing out toys.

Collection and donation of supplies

Smart from the Start is continuously in need of new and like-new children’s books, toys, clothing, layette items, diapers, healthy snacks, arts and crafts supplies, and educational games. Supplies can be delivered to our main site at 68 Annunciation Road, Roxbury, MA.

Individuals and groups are welcome to join us and assist with programming, including community outreach, homework help, events, and more. Contact us to arrange for volunteer assignment based on your availability and skills.
